My local shop got in a new GW Paint rack for displaying their stock recently. Some sort of revamp of GW retail procedure or something.
Anyhow, during the cleanout of old stuff, they discovered a few bottles of Yellow Ink, and I think Magenta Ink.

Does anyone still value these? They're in clear containers, and still swish around fluidly. They look usable.
I know Coat d'Arms makes the 'old' GW lines still, but wasn't sure if Yellow Ink or Magenta Ink were still in their lineup.

They are not in the current line, as washes have replaced inks. That being said, inks have their place and someone may want them somewhere...

Ugh...I hated the inks. It took me a while to figure out the difference between washes and inks, now I love the washes.

You know what the difference between washed and inks is? It's just a matter of dilution. Add some water to the inks, and they work just as well as the washes in my experience.

I find the old inks did not settle in the crevices as well and the new washes.

Inks are used more to stain exsisting painted surfaces and settle out flat, and they usually are a glossy finish.

Washes even though they also stain painted surfaces, settle in crevices better and build up on themselves. and they are a flat finish. I believe t is a matter of surface tension.

For an ink to behave more as a wash you would have to add a surfactant. Dish soap would work. This would not kill the gloss finish though.

I know by adding water that the inks flowed into the recesses better. As for the glossy finish, well, that's what inks are supposed to do.

If you JUST add water i found that the ink would dry but not in the recess.... it would be bare in the recess and you would get a "bathtub ring" effect as the ink would seemingly dry on the surface of the water and then the water would evaporate out of the deep recess. I found that the soap would aid the ink bonding with the water and it drying as one, as well as change the surface tension of the water.

The inks, even with water, wouldn't provide a nice even coverage. You had to pour out a little puddle of ink and then mix in a drop of dish washing detergent to cause the ink to flow evenly. Then it would actually work like a wash.

I think I know why I never had the problem with inks, everytime I used inks I made sure my water had brush soap mixed in. Never liked the way inks stain if not cleaned thoroughly.

This is true. Also, on the topic of Inks... I have just pruchased the Vallejo Game Colour set (many old GW pigments) and the inks are fantastic. Full spectrum, including Green-Black for military modellers.
