Need help with Dwarf List....Please

Ok, this is my first attempt at putting together a small Dwarf Army. I would like some input on it, just don’t be to brutal…lol, here goes:

Character:
Dwarf Lord: with heavy armor, shield, hand weapon, Master Rune of Gromril, Rune of Stone, Master Rune of Flight & 2 Runes of Cleaving

Runesmith: Hand weapon, 3 Runes of Spellbreaking

Master Engineer: Great weapon

Core:
20 Warriors: Shields, Axes, Standard, Musician, Leader

10 Thunderers: Standard, Musician, and Leader

10 Quarrellers

20 Warriors: Great weapons, Standard, Musician, Leader

20 Miners: Command Group

Special:
2 Cannons: both cannons with Rune of Disguise, one with Rune of Reloading, and one with Rune of Forging

2 Stone Throwers: one with Rune of Penetrating, Rune of Fortune, one with Rune of Reloading, Rune of Penetrating, and Rune of Burning

Total Points: 2,058

I know this doesn’t sound like to many pts or models, but like I said this is my first attempt at a list. I would like to know if this would work or should I start all over again, and any help for it would be great, I would like to maybe trim it down to 2,000 pts or take it to 3,000 pts. Note I am using a older Dwarf Army Book and some pts may have changed in value.

Too many points on runes. Personally, I'm not too keen on grudgethrowers. I think Bolt Throwers are better and cheaper. The miners really don't do anything for this army as it is mainly a gunline. I'd get rid of the miners and invest in some Rangers.

I had originally thought of not putting in the miners, and maybe adding more thunderers, quarrelers or putting in rangers. So I have to many points in runes? which ones should I take out, and the ones to leave in place? And another thing I don't know how the points in the old book workout as far as value as the ones in the newest book.

Things are changing in 8th. Supposedly GT are better now- no guessing. Thunderers need shields. You need a BSB.

You must be using an older book- Miners are not "Core", they are "Special" now.

I think Dwarves are going to be really hooped in HtH, I would go more shooting, that is where the real power of dwarves is going to be in 8th.

I think you're a jerk.

I would agree on the runes, though. Master Rune of Flight is a neat, tempting choice, but even bumping your Strength to 6, it's really only good for assassinating unit champions. With the new rules, you're almost always going to strike last, so adding a Ward Save in there is a solid choice. Also, I ALWAYS take shieldbearers. They make the Lord Unit Strength 3, which means he's immune to Killing Blow (dunno if this will be the case in 8th ed). Another bonus, he now displaces two models in the unit, but adds two WS5 S4 attacks, so if you're displacing Ironbreakers, Hammerers or Longbeards, you get the same number of attacks at the same WS and S as you would normally. This is the setup I usually go with for my Lord. . .

Great Weapon -- Master Rune of Kragg the Grim, Rune of Snorri Spanglehelm, Rune of Fury
Rune of Stone
Master Rune of Spite
Shieldbearers

He has a 1+ Armor Save and a 4+ Ward Save, which gives him durability. The weapon runes give him 5 attacks at S6 with +1 to hit, meaning I'm hitting on a 3+ or better no matter what, and a 2+ against anything WS6 or lower. It's a decent balance of defense and offense, and I find that only the nastiest close combat characters (like Bloodthirsters or Kholek Suneater) can take him down without trouble. He's also good at tearing units apart. When I have a little more time, I'll hop back and talk about the army itself.

Seriously, I was just starting to feel all chipper with the revelation of the new reforming rules - they really help out hth armies that tend to break foes only to run off the table chasing them, then wasting 2 more turns trying to come back on the table and charge something else.

And then you go ahead and post that abomination of a Dwarf list.

That said - if I can figure out how to get across the table without getting shot to pieces - you are SO dead!

I like that list Norseman, but like said earlier I don't think your gonna make to many friends with it..lol. I've been working and tweaking the original list alot, but don't have it up to par just yet when it is done I will repost it....Again thanks everyone for your input, & SS I took your advise about BB and posted there and have gotten many helpful tips.I don't understand what makes these little buggers so darn appealing to me, maybe because they are stubborn, and the way they use their axes I guess..Regards Soulbinder.
