Outbox not sending?

My outbox has messages in them that don't seem to be sending. After I send the email/PM it says sent successfully but then remains in my outbox. Any help?
Messages stay in the Outbox until your recipient reads them, THEN they move to Sent box.
This way you know that your messages HAVE been read, at least.
