I am new to WarHammer and Space Marines, having played 3 games so far. I do not know much about WH.... Looking for SM cheap to learn, if possible, and play. I want to do SM loyal. not chaos.

It has been suggested to me to focus on SM, build a 1000 pt force, 1500 pts, 2000pts and 2500 pts. Any ideas or suggestions are apprciated. What, where do I begin. Have Codex and started reading yesterday... a lot to learn. I was thinking to stay away from vehicles for cost and points, stay with infantry and some heavy weapons[similar to anti-tank and medium and heavy machine gun team it seems to me].

Thank you for your insite and time and any helpful offers & suggestions.

This doesnt belong here. Try posting in Help/Questions section. A Mod will probably move/delete.
Good luck.

You'd definitely want to plan for 1000 points, but you could even start a little smaller. 4 to 500 points of combat patrol might be a good start, you can google that for more information. That will give you a taste of how the marines play, but yeah you'll probably want to grow your list pretty quickly.

1000 points is a pretty good starting number to really get a hang of the game. It will allow you to take some more expensive units, have a little unit redundancy, and just generally try some of the interesting things in your list out a little more. If you don't have many models, to start with, I'd definitely get the Assault on Black Reach starter set which will give you a pretty good core of around 500 points. From there, you might consider the Space Marine battallion with 15 basic marines, 5 assault marines, 5 scouts, and the Rhino. This will give you a solid troop backbone for scoring including two decked out marine units and some change, two elites choices, a basic HQ, and scouts, also for scoring and a little flexibility. Ideally, you might want to round this all off with another vehicle for a little redudancy and strength in numbers, so that the enemy will have to split his fire between your rhino, dreadnaught, and whatever else. You could go with a heavy support choice, probably the vindicator for some heavy punch, or possible a predator. I'd probably buy another HQ choice for kicks, maybe a librarian or chaplain. All-in-all, if you're buying from a discount retailer like Chaosorc, this will set you back maybe a little less than 200 bucks. If you're on a smaller budget, go for the starter set and another troop choice, maybe a full tactical squad or a set of scouts. In fact, this really might make the most sense. Enjoy!
