First off, let me compliment you on checking up on your trade partners. That's good sense.

That being said, now might be a time to familiarize yourself with the site. Better to know the lay of the land before the battle than to learn it as you go. Yes?

First, if you haven't already, you should read the rules of Bartertown. As far as I know you haven't broken any (your post was initially in the wrong section. I'm not stressing over that, though), but it's a good idea to know them. We do not accept ignorance of the rules as a defense, should you ever violate one of the more serious ones.

As for your specific inquiries, you should click on the "Check References" tab at the top of the page. From there, you can type in the user name of any site member (or former member) and see their reference details. They're dated, too. So, while someone might only have a 50 or so rating, you could also see that he's been on the site for 10 years (Bartertown has been online since 1996).

Additionally, if you're looking at someone's post (like this one, for example), you can look at the number next to their User ID (take a peek at mine, for example). That number, divided by two, is typically the # of successful trades that person has received references for. If you looked at mine, you see I'm at over 300. That means I've received over 150 references (I actually have more trades than that, since not everyone chooses to leave references). Now, if you click on that number, it will take you to the listing I told you how to search for manually. It shows their complete trade history there.

Positive trades are a +2 for your reference, Neutral's are +1, and Negatives are -10. As you see, we take negatives VERY seriously. One negative wipes out FIVE good trades.
As a general rule, the higher the person's reference score, the less you have to worry about them. Until you know them and your way around, though, it's always best to check out ALL of your potential trade partners.

Why don't you take a moment now to look those individuals up in the tab above and see what their ref's are?
