40k vehicle gunner rules question

Ok another question about the 5th ed. rules. I can't find anything covering this, then again I should have been in bed 3 hours ago..
I just bought from a trader here on b-town some well painted emperor's children models. Ther is 1 land raider, 2 rhinos, and a pred. All of the vehicles have the gunner/commander in the cupola; equipped with sonic weapons.
My question is, can they shoot/use that or does the model have a 'standard gunner/commander' template?
I'd hate to waste a sonic weapon just for show.
Thanks, all.

Well.. the Rhino has 2 fire points for an interior model to shoot out of.. so if there is an embarked model with a sonic blaster.. it "counts" for that.
However, the LR and the Predator do not have fire points.. so they are just for show as Lady Anara said.

I do this often for my plague marines and I always count it as a twinlinked bolter. This person was probubly doing the same as they all can take them (u might have to pay points but they can)
Just remember that the models inside fire from the "top hatch" not the circle capulas so u must measure from the rectangle (it matters for melta range).

If the vehicle has no fire points, then no, he can't fire. If the vehicle has fire points, then however many fire points there are is how many models may fire from it.
Rhino has 2, so 2 models can fire. Razorback has zero, so no models may fire from it.
Pintle-mounted storm bolters/twin-linked bolters are defensive weapons that are fired using the vehicle's BS. Not by a model.

Keeping in mind, of course, that models can only fire from it if there are embarked models.
So, if that Rhino isn't carrying a squad, nothing can shoot from the inside.
Your best bet would be to pop those special weapons off & replace them with regular arms, then use the specia weapons somewhere else. : )
I call that "bartertowning."
As in, "Dude, look! I just Bartertowned an extra unit of Ork Boys out of these bits I got in a trade and my bits box!"
Okay... so, I just now made that up... But it DOES demonstrate the kind of things we BTowners are known to do!

In that case, you might just wanna leave them as really cool looking tank crew.
