Painting Contest 4(comments, questions, and answers)

As many of you'll may or may not have seen there is a painting contest series taking place in the the Painters Wanted/for Hire forum. This contest is coming in on the close of it's third episode. It is located at this link.

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=97934

So this thread is asking for comments, questions and suggestions for the next one. I have already had a few suggestions and just wanted to talk them over with those partaking in the contest. What would you like to see in this?

Before I ask about the possible ways to host the next one let me briefly explain what's happening with the current one.

I post the thread with the rules and dates. People from BT send me pics of minis that they have that are unpainted. They must be around warhammer infantry size(I.E. no cavalry or tanks). Then once I get a list of 12 to 20 I'll post them all in the thread. Then painters pm me and claim models that they would like to paint. I relay their addresses to the models owner who then ship the models to them. The painters get two weeks to paint the models. They then send the pics of the fully painted models to me. I list them all here in a poll(with the help of the mods). Then the owners of the models who have had one painted pay me three dollars though PayPal. Then people from the sight vote on them for a week. After that time the money paid by the painters is split up between the first, second, and third place painters as a prize. Then the painters ship the models they have painted back to the owner.

One thing that a user has suggested is that for the next one is that instead of each person listing a few random models, each person should list a squad in the Mordheim fashion. Each owner would list a squad of six to ten models. He would still pay three or maybe four dollars a model. Then painters would pick a squad to paint. This time though they might be given three weeks. And if that's too much painting for one painter then we could leave the option open for two painters to team up on a single squad. Either way this would add a lot of fun as the painters could paint themes and and what not on around eight models. Not to mention the prize money would be significantly bigger.

Or we can just do what was done in the last one. Or if there are enough people wanting to do both we can just do both in two different threads. Oh and for the squad contest I would inform the owner of the squad of the user who has requested his squad and the painter should probably provide pics of his work. That way the owner knows where is squad is going.

So what do you'll think?

I think the single model idea was better. Doing squads just seems like a way for someone to get dirt cheap contract painting. Especially if the painter is supposed to show in progress photos to the owner. That seems like the owner is expecting to be able to guide the contest entry. If I enter a Golden Demon I don't expect to have a GW employee sitting on my shoulder telling me what's OK or not when it comes to my personal creative process. In my opinion, it stops being strictly a contest at that point.

I agree that squads = bad idea.

Here's something, though... Paired models.
The guy needing minis painted posts a pair of minis and the painter paints them both.
The idea here is that the minis are tied together, somehow.
Maybe a Reaper wizard & a familiar. Maybe a 40K IG Heavy Weapons team. Maybe 40K IG Creed & Kell. Maybe a necromancer & a zombie.
That kind of thing.
The paint job should tie the two together, preferably.

Or....

"Paint my base" competition.
The mini owner submits one base, from 25 to Dreadrought sized, to be painted.
It can be a resin precast, one he did himself, whatever... And the painters paint them.

I think I might actually be willing to provide models for either of those competitions.

How bout a "Big Guys" competition? Models on 40mm bases (limits, like no warjacks or something could be appropriate).

Possibly a "converted model painting competition." Choose a base size (25mm, 40mm, etc). All submitted models must have SOME conversion on them, even if only a body part swap.

Each model painted should cost a $3 to $4 input into the pool.
First, 2nd & 3rd painters each get a piece of it. Divide by perventages (50% to winner, 30% to 2nd & 20% to 3rd, for example).
