Broken Links

Post by ^Raven^ »

Hello,
I want to preface this by saying that I hope I'm posting this in the correct area. I couldn't find another that would be more appropiate.
Lately, and I say lately when I've only just started using Btown again lately, whenever I try to login or click any links they try to go to www.bartertown.COM...blah blah blah. They're supposed to go to www.bartertown.ORG.
I don't think this is a cookies problem on my end and wondered if there was an issue at Btown's end. It gets very frustrating and my only way around this has been to manually change the .COM to .ORG in the address box of my browser.
I hope to find some relief.

What browser are you using? IE, Firefox, etc?

Try typing in (or bookmarking) http://www.bartertown.com/trading/

1. Lower rating ships first - even if I am purchasing.
2. If you agree to buy something, you have 72hrs. in which to pay. If payment is not received in 72hrs., I will automatically post a Non-Payment/Backout thread.
3. Refs are left upon positive receipt of goods, NEVER beforehand!
4. I accept Paypal & USPS money orders and charge for shipping AT COST. I make no profit from it.
5. I trade NIB/new models at retail.

I'm using Firefox but it also does it with IE. I had flushed my DNS and cleared my cookies and cache. I even had some other people I know try it in the UK, Canada, and mid-west USA. They all have same problem.

My error message, and their's too, is that Firefox says "Firefox can't find the server at www.bartertown.com.

When I tried to reply to your post I got that message, and I had to go around it 3 times just to get in and post.

I think there may be an error at the server level. I know some links are set to www.bartertown.COM and not www.bartertown.ORG.

It is very frustrating.

Raven,

Although this is not in writing, (yet) as a moderator I would ask that you keep signature images no bigger than 90x600 pixels.

On your question... This was a problem durring the server move a while back. Although I may list steps you have done already, this solved my problem and others when using FireFox. I would probably do this in order.

(This is what most people forget)
Delete all bookmarks in IE and Firefox that are connected to the bartertown server. www.bartertown.com - www.warhammer40k.com - www.ChaosOrc.com

Delete Cookies

Delete All local and online temp files

Reboot

Enter through www.bartertown.com

Log-in using Remember Me. (And any browser Remember Me options)

Once logged in, bookmark the home page again.

It worked for me. The important step is deleting your bookmarks.

You're an older user... You are remembering the old site.
This site isn't set as a -dot- org anymore. It IS a -dot- com.
That changed when the site format changed.
whenever I try to login or click any links they try to go to www.bartertown.COM ...blah blah blah. They're supposed to go to www.bartertown.ORG.

Your links should be bringing you to bartertown.com, not bartertown.org.

Eric
Lower rating? You ship first.

Give me a sense of humor Lord. Give me the grace to see a joke.

I think what this situation needs is some imagination.
