Is it okay to list asking prices?

I've got a big collection that needs to go sooner rather than later & I'm trying to figure out what my best options for selling it are. There's comics, action figures, Star Wars minis, Heroclix, 40K, all kinds of stuff. Seems like this is a good place for the miniatures.

I've done a lot of eBay research to figure out the approximate values of what I have & figured I'd just note the lowest price with which I was comfortable to make things easier, but checking the trade forums, nobody seems to list dollar amounts. Is it ever done on this site? Am I missing the whole point of Bartertown by trying to dictate the sale prices?

Go right ahead and list what you're looking for! I prefer it over the guys who just say "Make an offer." See, a lot of people are into the whole haggling bit so they don't list prices and try to fish for people who will pay more. This can be an effective tactic if you've got the time, but I prefer to avoid hassles.

Doing research on eBay for completed sales isn't a bad idea, but I will tell you a lot of Bartertown traders tend to go to lower end of the spectrum on what they're willing to pay. (In my experience.) Also, if you want to maximize the amount you get you're better off selling things individually rather than in lots. Again, it's a matter or how much time you want to invest in maximizing your return. Lots of little lots can be irritating to deal with as a seller, but people are more likely to pay a bit more for the things they need singly than in groups with things they don't need or even want.

*edited to add* Also, if you have painted models make sure you have pictures. Pictures along with good descriptions. And be aware that painted minis are usually valued very low.

Putting your aking price is perfectly fine. Many people actually do. Typically the people who dont are looking for trades or hope to maximize the selling price. If you know the minimum you want to accept, go ahead and list it.

As a buyer, I prefer to see asking prices. If they are your "best" prices, then you'd do well to make sure that's obvious.
As a seller, I can tell you that, in MY experience, I've received more interest by NOT listing any numbers.
When you put your asking price in, the people who want extreme bargains don't bother to PM you. When you don't, you at least get "looks."
My ads all currently say "PM me and make an offer or ask me to throw out the first number" (or something like that), and I get plenty of both. In a couple cases, the offers I received were more than the asking price I'd listed on the same item in previous posts.
To reiterate what HZ said, it's good (GREAT, in fact) that you took the time to get COMPLETED AUCTION prices from feebay. There are many here who will pay that... for the most part, though, you should be willing to take a little less.
Typically, if it's something that I'm not sure on the value of, I'll look up completed auctions on feebay and, if those numbers aren't too bad, I will set my "best price" a little lower.
