Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.ba

Post by friar.tuck »

Greetings.
Just seeking a bit of advice out there... this has been happening for the last 6 months or so and I'm sure the problem is BTKATS as my IT Department likes to say (Between the Keyboard and the Seat)... nonetheless, I find that nearly every time I am surfing around bartertown.com or maybe going between the Board and PMs, my browser freezes up and I get this message: Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.bartertown.com.

Once this happens, I can not do anything to reestablish a connection to bartertown.com.... I just have to close everything out, wait for some seemingly random amount of time (generally greater than 10 or 15 minutes), and then log back in...

Any insight out there on what I might be doing wrong? This is the only website that I've ever had a problem like this... thank you for your insight and thank you for bartertown!
Respectfully,

Friar.Tuck

I've had the same problem the last several days.
I have IE.
It's btown again, it's server, the time of day and number of people surfing the site.
I've had the page 'spin' 'thinking' and not look like it was going to post. I've shut the page and come back and seen the post or pm.
Heh, I was called a Grognard. ;-)

Same problem, on and off, all week. Running Chrome.
Trading Guidelines:
1. Lower rating ships first - even if I am purchasing.
2. If you agree to buy something, you have 72hrs. in which to pay. If payment is not received in 72hrs., I will automatically post a Non-Payment/Backout thread.
3. Refs are left upon positive receipt of goods, NEVER beforehand!
4. I accept Paypal & USPS money orders and charge for shipping AT COST. I make no profit from it.
5. I trade NIB/new models at retail.

I won't attest for the last week. I'll just say that, if it IS traffic related, they FINALLY can't blame me. Mwahahahaha!

In general, though, there are no Firefox/BT issues. It's all I surf BT with at work, because it works better than IE.

Lower rating? You ship first.

I think what this situation needs is some imagination.

FYI, Troubleshooting: If you are having problems and you think it is the browser, try a different web browser.

Personally, I think that is the webserver is only set up to allow a certain number of connections; and when that number is reached you start having the problem as described in the original post.

If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.

Thanks for the feedback... I'm thinking it might be the server also... I'm running Firefox 12.0 and it has no problems with any other site... hopped over to a friend's IE and tried and same connection establishing problem so I don't think it's me this time.... ha... thanks again for the feedback...

We've been experiencing several traffic related issues the past week or week and a half. That's likely what you're seeing. The sheer number of connections often overloads the server. When this happens, the best thing you can do is just wait and try back in a few minutes. Spamming F5 or the refresh button actually makes the situation worse.

I apologize for the inconvenience, but rest assured that we are actively seeking solutions and hopefully we'll have this problem solved soon.
