I don't mean to butt in, but perhaps it should be ammended to the rules the next time they come up for review (or however the process works?)- While most of us, I daresay, do know about the one-reference-per-transaction rule, I think Ironhide makes a good point, aside from this thread, it's not expressly written anywhere that I know of.

Just a thought!

-Lower rating? You ship/pay first. Same goes for me.

'How Much for...?' messages will no longer be replied to at all. I've been nice about it, now I'm done.

My point exactly. Only older members would know of this. New members would be at the mercy of an unwritten rule.

At which point we'd delete the extra one and inform them.
I don't disagree that we could use a clarification in the rules.

I agree.

But I think it is worth noting that while the policy may be lacking, the practice is well-established and also common across sites that do the same thing we do--eBay, the other forums that have refs. It's not as if this is some obscure no-spitting against the wind on the 4th Sunday of the month rule.

Well-established to who? Are we to assume that new members would know of this? Are we to assume that all new members use eBay or other forums that use a reference system? I'm pretty sure eBay also spells out that you can only leave one ref per transaction, and I would be willing to bet that other sites that use ref system have done the same. Maybe not all, but the majority most likely.

While it seems to me that basic common sense would tell you that one trade = one reference, I do agree that new members may not realize it. That's why I said earlier, "At which point we'd delete the extra one and inform them. I don't disagree that we could use a clarification in the rules."

I did say "I agree".

eBay spells it out because they are a massive company. Other sites may have done so as well, and we will soon.

But if you ask "Well-established to who?", I would have to say--everybody. All sane, reasonable, logical people probably tend in the direction of one trade=one ref, especially since feedback is based on refs for trades. Crazy or unreasonable people are excluded, and I'd be ppatient with the simply ignorant.

For a rank to have meaning, it would have to have a logical foundation, which you acknowledge in your original post re leaving a Neutral. In the case of Neutrals, you could leave 1000 of them and not affect a rating, but the same would not be true of Pos/Neg refs.

That is why my original post only mentioned using neutral refs. The other post was just to point out that there was nothing written in the rules that is was "one trade = one ref". I agree that it should be a logical assumption, but how often do we see the illogical on the internet? I have always been the type of person who factors in the lowest common denominator or the worst-case scenario. I fully support a clarification of "One trade/deal = one reference" in the rules.

I am working on an idea concerning neutral refs, and you will possibly see more about in a more private forum. I want to flesh out the idea and get some staff feedback before getting opinions from the membership.

For the sake of logic, I hear everyone's posts/complaints/concerns and acknowledge them. That said, I've always went with the "reasonable/logical" assumption that it was one transaction = one feedback.

That said, I want to tell the OP (Original Poster) - keep sending them PMs!! I have been more UNfortunate than other traders here, as you can see from my signature!! I've had several "dead-beat" posters NOT leave feedback for me when I have for them. This pisses me off!! So I've placed their names in my signature, and I would encourage you to do the same regardless of policy, future policy, or "logic"!

I've only had 322 "official" transactions, but if people would get off their a$$ and take 30 friggin seconds to post a feedback, I'd be up to 330! The difference between 322 and 330? Not much, honestly it's trivial - but it's the principal of the thing! FU&#$RS!!

If they "stiff" you on feedback, make it known!!!! :-x

ancientsociety - AKA - "The Barter Town Curmudgeon" has it right!!! Don't be a douche! :-x and I'm his apprentice!!
