Warhammer Historicals

Post by kturock »

I've been reading, listening to and watch the 'Sharpe's' books, audibooks and tv show recently.

I recall that GW had some historical rule books.

I searched the GW site and it doesn't even list any books.

I'm mostly curious about the rules, as opposed to the fiction; thought I might like that later after I've read the rules.

Anyone know anything about Historicals?

Played the rules or read them?

I'll search ebay, amazon and the rest of the web...
and hope I hae the name right.
Heh, I was called a Grognard. ;-)

I already found that. Thanks.. ANd some of the over-priced bokson feebay and amazon.com.

now if I could get some thoughts by people who've played.

Any other games in that period? 1799-1812. I know there are some American revoloution out and I had Johnny Reb way back when. I had sword and the flame years ago..I played t at a con.. bought the rules but that might have been area specific. Brits vs zulus I think.

Any suggestions?

You might try Sharp Practice by TooFatLardies.
http://toofatlardies.co.uk/

It is a skirmish based based game that handles a dozen to 100 figures quite easily and features a character driven play style without characters being quite as dominant as sometimes GW games are accused of. In other words it is meant to replicate the flavor of the Sharpe novels.

Miniature wise Perry, Foundry, Victrix are good companies to start with in 28mm, though there are quite a few options.

I looked over copies of the ancients. It's basiclly whfb w/o magic. go figure.
it seems instead of amies books, there are the different time periods and settings..same thing but different.

The powers that be behind Warhammer Historical (Jervis, Priestly, the Perrys, et al) have also come out with new rules sets that you might want to take a look at. Black Powder covers the napoleonic wars and is also useful for the rest of the horse and musket period. Hail Caesar has just been released and is for ancients.
