Need help with prices, advice

Post by Phalanx »

Hello.

I haven't sold anything here on Bartertown before (nor have I bought anything here) but I want to try to sell some stuff and I'd rather not have to deal with Ebay.

First, what would be a good method to accept payment? Is paypal the best to use? Also, how hard is it to get money from your paypal account into your bank account? Also, what is the best way to get shipping estimates?

As for what I want to sell, this is what I'm thinking of selling (everything is assembled, though some of the 'nettes have had their arm come off):

60 Daemonettes (Diaz): All of them are painted or primed (20 primed white, 19 primed black, 1 painted, and 20 that are either primed white or have a very white based paint scheme). I think two of them might be missing the metal arm because the person I bought them from put on plastic banners
10 Seekers (plastic): None of them are painted.
Keeper of Secrets: Painted in a white based style, gazelle head
Keeper of Secrets: Modified the upper left arm for a whip using some nid bits, uses a scything talon for the upper right arm, squid head with some different bits attached but I think I have the original head bits.
1 Bloodthirster: I had bought him painted years ago. His whip is gone and I replaced it with the sword from the second KoS and his axe arm and a wing had broken off at one point though I have repaired them and some of the bottom wing bits might be a bit bent and some of the paint is damaged. Uses the screaming head.

What are good prices to charge for these?

Sorry if this is the wrong section for this.

Nope.. this is a valid place to ask questions like this..

Breaking down your list a bit..

Generally speaking.. plastic assembled and unpainted.. 60-70% retail is a good bet, depending on how well assembled they are.. glue blobs, edges lining up etc..

metals - current models, modified, bare metal or lightly primed- maybe 50-70% retail, depending on the skill of converting and the models overall "look". If painted, it could drive the price down another 10-20 percent.. maybe more depending on how much work someone might have to do to get it to where they would want it themselves.

older metal models are even iffier ... the diaz daemonettes can go for crazy money.. but they are also one of the higher "recast targets" out there... so some buyers might value them less in case they are recasts. Others won't care cause.. they are HOTTIES! (insert bewb comment)

Above all.. TAKE PICTURES. Good quality photos make sales tons easier, and can allow for some honest feedback for what you want to sell them for.

Thanks for your help.

The daemonettes are all metal with no recasts. Is there a way to prove that online?

I was really confident about selling the stuff earlier but now I'm starting to get second thoughts after looking through my 'nettes (which is something I wasn't expecting to have because I thought I had worked through these feelings before). Maybe I should think a bit more before putting them up for sale...

not easily.. since they have paint on them it is really hard to make a call like that... maybe if you had the original packaging to go along with them, that might allay worries.

The problem there is that 40 of them are second hand and the last 20 I got at a GW auction back when they still had those and they didn't give me the box.

Maybe it might be worth it to invest in some simple green if I decide to sell them to strip the paint or something like that if a buyer wants to make sure that they're real.

paypal is a good method of payment, but, since you have no rating you also don't have much protection. Most people with a rating will require you to ship before they pay. Paypal also charges a percentage of charge (around 3%). If I'm paying I use paypal for instant convience, but often I will ask the seller to accept a personal check and wait a week before shipping to ease their mind about the check clearing. 60 daemonettes are going to bring alot of money if you're carefull. About 7 to 8 bucks each. If one person wants all of them then make sure they have a really good rating, have traded for large lots before and check their references.

Thank you for the information.

What would a high rating be?

Well you have someone like porkuslime ( 1534 ) who I believe has by far the most but high rating is subjective. I'd say someone at 100 or more refs would be pretty good guideline. You get +2 for every good trade you do here so someone at 100 has done 50 deals here and should be reliable. I'd still check the refs and see if any negatives or neutrals were there.

also, since you are in Canada, paypal charges conversion fees from USD to CSD.
Paypal also will charge another fee if the buyer uses a charge card.

Also, you have the problem of customs fees/duties/import tax on minis if you trade.
If you sell and it's to the US, usually there isn't a fee or a problem, unless it's a high dollar value.

Paypal, isn't as safe as anyone thinks.
Personally, I've been screwed by them twice. Ebay owns Paypal.
If you mark it as a gift, you have no recourse. [to save on fees.]
If you mark it as a purchase, you have little recourse.
If the seller takes the money out of his account instantly and transfers it to his bank account, you are screwed.

paypal can only take money out of their own paypal funds.
they can't charge a credit or debit card.
they can't withdraw it from an attached bank account.
they can only hope to catch money that goes into his paypal account from other buyers or sources.
If he never gets money into his account, you will never get any money back.

Sorry that I haven't been on for a bit.

Thanks for that bit of advice. What form of payment do you recommend then?

Postal money orders.

We in the US can go to any post office, and buy a money order for Canada. WE put it in an envelope and for about $1, we mail it to you.

Then you can take it to any Canadian post office and cash it.
If it gets lost or damaged while in transit, USPS will replace it for FREE.

I SUGGEST that the sender sends it registered mail for safety, since it gets a number for tracking. It's a bit cheaper, than Express Mail, and slower than normal mail, since it gets scanned and signed for and travels under lock & key.

ALSO. USPS sells money orders to most every country.

Now only with a few countries, Japan, Mexico, Canada; you'll receive the MO and mail it then & there. The other countries, you pay for the MO, and postage, an USPS sends the MO to the country. [it has to do with money conversions and country status].

Canada takes postal money orders now? It's been awhile, but I remember they would not cash them.
