Circle or Skorne

Post by Fool Injected »

I am thinking about getting in Hordes. My decision is to go either Circle or Skorne. I don't own any of the books and really hate the privateer press forums so my question is posted here.

What are the pro's and con's for each army? Does either army have weapon masters in them?

Never played either of those two, but the Circle models look way better than the Skorne ones.

The big difference between the two is that Skorne can get into melee and administer a beating, whereas Circle are all tricksy and cant go toe to toe as well.

Skorne does have Weapon Masters, but Circle has alot more different options. Skorne used to have problems with terrain, but the newest book, Metamorphosis gave them all kinds of pathfinder.

Skorne tend to use their magic to buff their troops, or have them do something after death, whereas Circle is more denial and movement type of magics.

Skorne is more akin to Khador and Menoth, whereas Circle is more akin to Cryx. (warmachine metaphor)

The Skorne are far more Hammer and Anvil types than the Circle. Skorne wants to close, tie you down in melee, and Beat you to a steaming, unrecognizable mass of pulp. They have a lot of denial effects, and can make you suffer for killing their troops with things like Ancestral Guardians and Death March (Hexeris spell).
In appearance, they're like a cross between the Romans and the Samurai.

The Circle is far more hit & run. My wife plays (or will, once the Devil Ph.D is done) a Circle army. Circle is good at hitting VERY hard with a diverse array of magic and Beast beatsticks, then getting away before the counterattack comes. Each Circle caster has a very different playstyle and benefits from an army designed to suit their particular abilities. You would not want to take a troop heavy army with Kaya, nor an all-Wold army with anyone but Baldur (well, unless you like the 3-wold Kruger lightning storm of doom army).

Basically, each army is quite unique in play style and the real question is more "which models do you like better?" You might want to pick up the Hordes books here on BT for cheap and proxy a few games before deciding which models/army to buy. :-)

Just an update. They are starting a revamp of the forums and how their overall feel is going to be over at the PP forums. So while you might have had a negative experience there before, it might be getting better soon.

Thanks everyone for you input. Sorry for the slow response but I have been way to busy lately.

Hey Lin, What armies do you play?

The problem is I like both armies. Damn, pewter crack!

@alienated one - if the forums improve that would be great. They need it. thanks for the info.
