Bullets and Tarantulas!!

Post by mrsuitcasegames »

Okay, I've got a few questions about this rule that I've had for some time.
Rule #8: Concerning 'acceptable' trade materials:
Nothing that violates the law in the United States. That includes copyright law, federal law, state law, local law...get the idea?
No weapons of any kind. This is not a political statement, this is a rule of the website as decided by Trademaster Adam and myself.
NO FIREARMS OR WEAPONS.
Anyone who posts an ad asking for firearms or other weapons in trade for anything will be immediately and permanently banned.
That means no: Guns (be they BB or powder-powered), Rifles, Shotguns, Automatic Firearms, cans of spam, Semi-Automatic firearms, bows, arrows, crossbows, shuriken, shaken, trained attack squirrels, sharpened spoons, blades of any length or type, polearms, explosives, combustables, blunt-force instruments (batons, nightsticks, tonfa, escrima, etc) or boots-to-the-head. That includes practice weapons like SCA and Olympic fencing gear, dulled aluminum samurai swords, tree branches, darts, plastic kitchenware and cooking pans.
Paintball and Airsoft equipment are acceptable.
"Boffer" style weapons made of PVC pipe and foam padding are acceptable.
If you have questions whether or not your item qualifies as "boffer" then contact me before you post. I will clarify.
Firearm accessories are NOT acceptable.
That means no magazines (what holds the bullets), clips, parts, shells, reloading equipment, gunpowder, sights, or anything else I deem related to firearms or weaponry.
Animals are NOT acceptable trade materials. We're just not going to go there. For that matter, human beings or any of their constituent parts aren't acceptable trade materials either.
Some stupid questions, but here we go.

1. I had someone suggest using bullets as Ork Stormboy Rokkit packs. It says "ammo", so I'm almost certain its a no. But what about spent shell casings or practice arrow tips (the rounded ones- for target practice, not hunting.) Would that be legit?

2. Referring to the 'living' aspect, what about taxidermy? (I.e. the stuffed skin/head/body of a real animal) Would that count as "object" or "Living"? Seeing as how its not living anymore it doesn't fit the description but I doubt this part was aimed at still living creatures being sent through the mail, exclusively.

Point being, a REAL tarantula taxidermy-afied would make a nice, creepy as hell mount for my goblin warboss.

I posted that here so that I could get feedback more than anything else as I'm mostly just curious. I mean, I'm sure If I looked hard enough I could find a stuffed tarantula in my area- I do live in colorado. It was mostly just an idea, and a way to split the rules in a way that will prevent people abusing it (because I got to it first).

Also, if anyone's got a similar bone to pick, then go ahead and throw it up here. Oh and I've always wanted to trade a Boot To The Head.
Formerly "bluegreenhello". The new name is the name of my future game store. Keep your eyes open but don't hold your breath. :-)

I always respond to pm's, I hope you will return the favor.

The Firearms clause likely ties to not wanting to have anything to do with US Federal BATF regulations in any way, shape, or form. Spent casings, like other inert stuff are probably OK, but definitely NOT live ammo or gunpowder!

The living animals clause probably has similar roots tied to livestock / vermin / non-native plant vector controls. But as similar to above, animal skins / leather belts / leather gloves / stuffed animals are probably OK.

That said, what idiot uses a live bullet on a model?!? Oh, it's an *Ork* player? Still, a bad idea. :P

The items in bold can still carry vector-borne insects and disease. I'm assuming by stuffed, you mean taxidermy animals.

Does that fall under the catagory of natural selection?

I would have a psychotic fit if someone showed up for a game with something like that.

As a weapon and firearm instructor, I have to point out that a live bullet is nothing more than a conical or round piece of lead. If he had a live CARTRIDGE then, I would be worried. ;)

(Merely correcting a pet peeve of mine - similar to Magazine (device that holds cartridges) vs. Clip (the portion of the magazine that pushes a cartridge into the chamber. Please take it as teasing.)

So if you had a bullet on your stormboyz back and rolled a 1 would you use a hammer to work out the armor check? (explodes he fails i guess?)

Please see my above post. A bullet is a part of a round of ammunition, the part that flies through the air and strikes the target, the other components are powder, primer and casing. When you put the four parts together with a modern firearm, you get a cartridge.

Hitting a lone bullet with a hammer does nada, except put a hole in the lead. Hitting a cartridge in the rear with a hammer is a recipe for disaster.

Dave
