How can I inquire about a trade between two other B-towners?

I do not want to name names, but here is my situation I painted some models for a guy. I gave him the models but never got paid. This transaction occured outside of B-town. Well a few weeks ago I see he has the items up for sale here. I pmed and asked him if I would ever see payment, he claimes he will pay me when they sell. I see on his post that the items sold, then the byer fell through, then they sold.

Okay, background is good. Sets the stage for the question/request to follow.

I am curious if the person actully got the items, I have not seen the guys name show up on the BTR, and I will not name his name so as not to slander him or get myself in trouble, but is it possible to inquire about a transaction between two other B-towners?

This is where things start to break down in your communication. Well, technically it was the last paragraph when you say "the items sold, buyer fell through, then they sold." That does not address to WHOM the items were sold: The original buyer who fell through or an unrelated party.

Secondly, BTR's are not for trade backouts.

Also, this is something of a counter-intuitive request. If you know who the seller is; you know who the buyer is...why do you need to ask anyone else about checking in on the transaction? Why not just ask the buyer if the items were received? Maybe they don't even know the circumstances behind your request and would be happy to help out.

For the record, Bartertown does NOT repeat NOT keep track of transactions between users.

Finally, if you ask an intentionally-vague question and do not provide critical information, you have no grounds to get upset (and expect any kind of sympathy) when people don't give you the answers you want to hear.

The Bartertown rules are intended to keep the place running in pretty good order without a lot of interference from the Staff. However, in unusual situations (and there are always unusual situations) the rules provide the flexibility necessary to handle them in the most beneficial manner for all concerned. In other words, they're there to give y'all guidelines on what to expect from the Staff when a dispute arises.

Since he probably won't say it, thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to beowulf's post. Hopefully the next time a situation like this arises, this thread can serve as an example.

It wasn't clear from your original post that this was what you were asking. So people jumped to various conclusions and the thread went the way it went.

To actually address your question: The obvious answer is to ask the seller, but apparently you're unable/unwilling to do that. The next best thing you can do is to check the seller's references. If the person who bought the models was being a good citizen, he will have left feedback for the seller. Look for a reference corresponding to when the stuff was supposedly sold, allowing for shipping time. Of course there's no guarentee that the buyer left feedback, so if you don't see a ref that doesn't prove anything.

A less good option is to post a thread here or in misc. messages asking if anyone has traded with .... or asking if anyone has purchased whatever models (possibly including pictures). But obviously anyone who's seen this post will know why you're asking. And that could be bad.

The only other option i can think of is to contact the admin who may or may not be able/willing to do anything. But as noted above, you'll likely be asked for proof.
