I bought a copy of the game, but only opened the box to check the contents.
I haven't decided if I'm going to keep it or not.
I watched the online preview/review, but it doesn't explain anything.

So has anyone tried it?

Thoughts?

I'm in the same...boat...as you, KT. I bought it but haven't tried it yet.

I haven't played it but heard from the owner of my FLGS that it's really simple (almost stupified to play) and a lot of the damage is random so you almost never know what will happen. My .02... I'm not sold on it. Nice models, expensive, and we all know what happens to GWs specialty games. Too little too late. The pirate bandwagon set sail long ago.

Ok. I broke down and opened my box. I broguht it with me to the game session on wednesday.

1 of the 1st pages in the rule book says to "read just the highlights & sidebars. Build the models, with out glue, then play.
Afterward, go back, read all of th rules, if need be, disassemble the models, paint & glue them. Some areas should be painted before glueing."

The models do mostly snap together. there wa sonly1 spot that needs glueing. Only 1 or 2 even would need glue to stay on the base.
Assembly is tough, since the instructions are 1-2 pics on the outside of the bottom box.
The models are really nice. Super detailed. Paintign will be tough unless your an experienced painted. The detail is tiny.

The rules are very simple. It's mostly cut and dry. The 2 page, sequence of play on the last pages are almost all you need to learn the game.
The models sculpts are very nice. A copy of basicly everything seen in fantasy so far, pirates, undead, skaven, giant [metal] squid.

IT is truely a beer & pretzels game.
The ships will not work for Man-o-war. They are too big.
1 of the guys, after skimming the rules said, it reminds him of the game "Trafalgar".

It looks like GW's answer to missing Pirates of the Caribean hit. It's a closed system. No other models needed. it has 12 scenarios. It's a 2 player game, or 2 sides, splitting up fleets amoung players.
There isn't anyway to make your own battles, but then again, with only 5 ships maximum per side, it can be just tactics & lcuk to reply them again.

They are alot of stores selling it. Online I've seen it down to $90+shipping up to $200. It's not anywhere near sold out, yet.

My FLGS ordered 4, and hasn't sold any. GW couldn't tell me if it would've been available anywhere but online or at the bunkers. [even though the flgs is listed in WD.]

I'm hoping to demo it there this sunday.

It might be a GW flop, but it does look fun. The cards are the best & worst thig in the game. Best because the influence alot & add a randomness to the game. Bad, because they are very thin & flimsy. They are too small or too large for ccg card sleeves. I'm thinking about scanning them and printing them on card stock.

My FLGS has gone through 13 copies. I thought the $130 was a little high for a game WITHOUT models I could use in 40k or WFB game so I passed on this. Quite a few guys at the store seem to REALLY like it. I watched a demo and wasn't impressed. Why would they do this and not relaunch Man-O-War?

I wonder if they might fit in one of Fantasy Flight's card sleeves? They make several different sizes for their games.

I have played a couple of times. It was fun, but not the kind of thing to be a regular feature on game night. Now it seems you can pick one up on ebay for $40-50.
