Input on Custom Gaming Room

Hello all,

I am about to launch into planning out a dedicated game room, and I am looking for some input from those of you who have undertaken this project, or who have contemplated some "must haves".

The room is roughly 20x20, with some mechanical (water tanks, 2 compact electric boilers) that I have to work around.

I want to ensure that the following are present:

1. Dedicated desk space for projects, probably with a computer for music and other hi-tech foolery.
2. LOTS of shelving. I plan to build my own boxes and then use third party doors and hinges.
3. A table that is minimum 4x4, preferably of a design that can expand to 4x8.

Fun stuff- first things I'd recommend past your list is good lighting and removable drawers (to double as bins to move stuff). Looking forward to seeing pics down the line...

Make a good sized table in the center (maybe banquet) and then get 3 or 4 2' by 4' sections for your gaming table.

You looking for form or function?
Are we talking about a "finished room" that will be used for gaming, or a space in your basement that you'll be doing "just enough" to for gaming usage?

Eric

Agreed with Eric, we need to know more! Also pics of the area would help too so we have some idea at how spacing is.

1) It needs to be in a warmer climate, say South Florida, where you don't to be concerned with snow.
2) You'll need a place to keep things: hot or cold and to be reheated.
3) Did I mention that it needs to be further south?
4) A chip holder.

One of my requirements for my game space was places to display models. Our hobbies are an art form, show it off. I ended up buying two of the old GW store display cases for mine. Looked great.

Hey gang,

Sorry for the long radio silence. Life.

So here are my current plans.

All cabinets will be built in 3/4" plywood to my custom specs. They will be bare wood to begin with--possibly painted or stained later.

Doors are show for reference on the cabinets, but all will be doorless (except for the upper furnace cabinets and the water heater cabinet) until the next round of budgeting.

All cabinets are specced to Ikea dimensions and holes, for easy addition of doors, drawers, hardware etc.

There is, you will see, a steel column holding the floor above up--a little rough on the delicate parts, but it should do the job.

Wow that is a huge basement. And it has windows! And a door! What madness is this?!?!?!

Am I reading your table right? 19 feet by 18 feet?

That's the whole room, actually. The table is just right under the room dimensions.

It's going to be a 5x4 at rest, and then extend to 8x4 for larger games.

What's in the images above is just a preliminary mockup.

Here's the room as it looks today. It doesn't look like much has happened, but clearing the room was an effort unto itself, as was patching and sealing the concrete surfaces.

Moved some plumbing--next up, electrical!
