Games Workshop now more expensive than Forgeworld?!

Hey guys, so through the course of a trade I have recently been doing I discovered a very irritating detail. As I was checking retail on the Tau I was interested in trading for, I realized that when converted to US $'s a Tau Broadside from Forgeworld comes out to around $46. The new Games Workshop Broadside costs $50, $4 more expensive. I find this ridiculous, as it used to be forgeworld that used to be more expensive than GW, because the models are higher quality.
Is this the case with any other models besides the broadsides? Do other armies face this problem?

Well the one from GW gives you the options to create multiple load outs compared to the forgeworld variant. The new GW also looks a lot better IMO than the forgeworld one; crisper design, more detail. You get what you pay for really and an extra 4 dollars for everything extra is not bad. In Canada a land raider from Forgeworld is 101 dollars give or take a few nickles while the GW is 89, the Forgeworld one looks SO much better with the additions and customizable doors and such for your army. Over-all, for Canadians anyways, Forgeworld is still the expensive choice, although most of it is worth it.
Edit: Also Tau literally just came out while the Forgeworld variant has been out for a while. Newer designs means more money since they look/are built better.

It's been this way in Canada ever since the price hikes last year. Going retail for retail, it's cheaper to build an all FW army than a GW-proper one.

haha, yeah, noticed that, too (not specifically, but GW's prices generally creeping up on FW's)

I know this is just one more complaint, but I was doing some price comparing, and 5 Witch Elves for a Dark Elf army are now $33! ($45 in Canada!) That's as much as 10 models used to cost! Which is as much as 20 cost before that!
Who is paying this much? For FINECAST!
It's been so long since I collected a new army from scratch that I had no idea it had gotten this bad--and it means that I won't be doing so from GW again.

I think you might be off a little, there. The metals used to be $4-5 per model. Even back when I bought my Dwarfs during 6th edition, when the only plastic were warriors and crossbows, the Longbeards, Hammeres and Ironbreakers were all $5. So the witch elves have definitely increased in price, but certainly not doubled. I will admit that, for Finecast, that's pretty steep.

Ah, youth.
In the period you are talking about, the three man blisters of metal figs were $18 in Canada--but the 10 man boxes (no command) were $45 (later $50, then $55).
So they were available for @$5 each--and are now $9 each, and made of a radically cheaper material.
A 30 man unit of Witch Elves presently would cost $270 (before taxes). $270! One unit!
