Anyone from Brooklyn, NY?

hey bartertown folk -

My wife was offered a lucrative job in NYC and her perspective employer mention Brooklyn, NY as a possible place to live.

I know ZERO about living in a big city and this obviously will greatly affect our decision as to if she takes the job.

With that said, I need some honest opinions about living in the Brooklyn area, namely Williamsburg, Greenpoint and/or Park Slope? or any other areas for that matter that anyone has any experience with.

I truly appreciate the input

thanks
Randy

Randy, I can't proclaim to being an expert on big cites but I'm from a suburb of Cincinnati and I spent a lot of time in Florida growing up and have spent quite a bit of time in large cities for school and visiting family and friends. My brother in law lives in Long Island so we've been to NYC several times and I have to say that it is an amazing place. You could read a million articles on the place and never get a true feel for it. If you and your wife have never been there I would say at least go for a visit and see what you think. It is night and day from Florida, about the only similarity is all of the tourists. My wife and I both think it's a bit too big and feel a little swallowed up by it but I have had friends that have lived and still live there and simply love it. If the job offer is good enough it might be a great opportunity for an adventure in life. :) Good luck with whatever yo decide, keep us posted.

I was born and grew up in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and used to do some summer work in Park Slope. My family owned businesses on Prospect Park West and on 9th st. just below 4th Ave,

I don't know Greenpoint and Williamsburg areas but Park Slope is nice. A lot of brownstones, quick walk up to prospect park. Best pizza on the planet (Smiley's) is in walking distance. Definitely worth checking out if the job opportunity is good. Obviously, you are in one of the 5 boroughs of NYC, so it is generally not a cheap place to live.

I'm sure you know this but keep in mind that cost of living is hugely inflated there so what seems like a good job offer has to account for that.

Thanks for the replies guys.

We've thought long and hard about it and It looks like we will be going through with it as all signs point to positives on just about all aspects of us moving there.

We are leaning towards a nice place in Park Slope that we've found and while a bit more on the expensive side, it will be closer to my wife's job in Manhattan as well as being close to other favorable things about the area as well.

Now with all that "stuff" out of the way.... who knows of any gaming spots in the area?

thanks again
Randy

there is the GW down on 8th street in manhatten(which is a few blocks from dallas bbq which is really good food for really good prices). and the Warmongers gaming club is based out of manhatten IIRC.
