battletech books

im thinking about reading battletech / mechwarrior again but dont know where to start the dark age books turned me off. any ideas?

Is there a particular era you are interested in?

If you want to go "old school" and stick with the 4th Succession War/Pre-Clan era then the Warrior Trilogy of books by Michael Stackpole are a great introduction to the setting.

Michael Stacklpole also did another trilogy set in the early Clan era called the Kerensky Trilogy. Both trilogies are set on a grand scale involving the highest ranking movers and shakers in the Inner Sphere and give a broad overview of the political intrigues of their respective eras as well as feature some iconic battle scenes.

Of course if you really want to do it "right" you could always go in the order they were released:
