I was thumbing through the 5th Ed. Space Marine Codex and looking at the different types of armor. And was wondering what everyones favorite armor type was? Mine is the Maximus, or the Corvus.

Mk.IV

It's the Red Scorpion's trademark after a fashion.

Iron and Crusade have a nice look, and the Heresy armor is growing on me. The others are fine, but none that are so interesting, though I do like the variety they've given the basic one.

I love them all, for different reasons.

I have a ton of Corvus, though Dakkar98 probably beats me out. It's probably my top pic, because there was a time when Space Marines looked like no other sci-fi soldier, and Corvus really moved my imagination, back when the colour plates in Rogue Trader were my primary reference for the 40k universe.

Mk.7. Only Mk. 7. The rest look just silly IMO. I always hated Corvus (beakies). It kept me out of the game for the first three editions.

Clicking enlarge seems to make the image smaller.

Is it the smooth plastron with the skull in the middle?

If it is, that's not really a Mark. It turns up in Iron and Crusade conversions, but it's not quite either.

I think that is a Mark VII without the Aquilla. But Could be MarkVI. Kinda hard to tell without the rest of the suit. Most suits are a mix of styles anyways.

My favorite is the new Mark VIII. With the new raised gorget. I am a sucker for the Corvus Mark VI

Sadly, it's actually the same size image. It just seems smaller because it opens on a larger, white space.

Yeah. Essentially, it's a blank chest piece with a skull and rivets. No wings. Something about that just looks cool as Hell to me.

I know what you mean Eric, I've been trying to build a Space Marine army with the single skull armor on it with beakie heads...But alas money wise the months haven't been to kind so I have put it on the back shelf for now.

My entire (Mk. 7 only) SM army uses that chest piece. Lots of trading to get over 300 of them in one place.

Color me jealous.

When I was building my SM army, I'd inherited a boat load of SM bits on sprue from a friend who build a BT army with the BT upgrades, right after they came out (we're talking about 2 LARGE trash bags FULL of sprues!!!!). Since he built a BT army, he didn't use ANY of the regular SM torso fronts. I used every one that he had and every one I had from what I bought.

You know it actually is considered an honor to wear the aquilla or the imperialis symbol on their chest. Have you no honor? LOL

Apparently not. No aquillas anywhere in my army.

I do have winged skulls on the fast attack models (bikers, speeder crew, assault marines), but those aren't aquillas.

The Flying Skull is the Imperialis...

Only the Emperor's children were allowed to wear the Aquilla before the Heresy. After their fall it was allowed in other chapters. But it is still considered an honor to bear either symbol.
