Anyone got any good sports related stories?

Post by mrsuitcasegames »

Hey, I realized I've never shared this with many people and well, I'm bored. :) I'm not much of a sports guy but this story sticks out and is worth telling.

I went back to California last year on vacation to stay with my uncle for a few weeks. Hes my only real father figure and as such this is my "other" home... well, we had decided to go to a Giants baseball game sometime during the time I was there. There were two slots to pick from- one vs Arizona and one vs Colorado. I'm not sure why I had to be asked... I was a Rockies fan, why would I want to go see his team play arizona? hehe

Anyway, so were in pac bell park watching this game. There was a SEA of orange and black, my eyes could not pick out a human body without this theme, well, except for my own silver + purple ballcap. :)

The game was a boring pitchers duel for the first 8 innnings. No runs through that entire time, and there was rarely even a hit, just strike after strike. Well, in the bottom of the eighth the giants score a run. At this point the sense of victory was in the air among the stadium... but then the top of the ninth came around and some hitter batted in two runs for the Rockies. The giants fielded their top hitter whats his face the panda- who hit a beautiful pop fly... which was caught by the left fielder. Game over, hehe.

The sense of disappointment was freakin' palpable. I've never felt such a powerful sense of anything that strong. It was probably made worse because I was prolly the only one NOT disappointed. I'm lucky though, I got home and realized that the bay area was my other home and I should just stay a Giants fan. Oh well, hehe.

Anyone got a story worth sharing?
Formerly "bluegreenhello". The new name is the name of my future game store. Keep your eyes open but don't hold your breath. :-)

I always respond to pm's, I hope you will return the favor.

This is a hockey story that happened to, and was related to me by my Dad. He was at a minor league hockey game in Ohio, back in the early '70's. This was back when some small arena's used chain link fencing instead of the more expensive glass.
Anyway, he's sitting a few row's up behind one of the goals, and one of the attacking players lets off a slapshot. The puck somehow squeeks past the fencing and BOOM! It hits the front edge of his seat between his legs. This goes up on the big screen and the entire crowd lets out a collective oooohhhh, for the close call. To which my dad then hold up the puck for all to see. Just an inch or so higher, and I likely wouldn't have been here to relate this story.
Go on, laugh! But one day, you'll be sitting in your house feeling all safe and secure... Then you'll look over and I'll be there... Doin'... stuff!

I am a Buffalo native and the first time my Dad ever took me to see a Sabres game was the night Clint Malarchuck had his carotid artery slashed open by a skate. All the blood on the ice made several people in the stands vomit and I saw a woman pass out. I was 10 at the time and that really freaked me out. I thought I was watching someone die. Thankfully he was OK in the end.

You almost did. I saw interviews about that and if he hadn't jammed his fingers into the gash in his neck, he would have died.
