it's around already. has anyone read it yet?

what's changed from the last, 5th ed? [not specifcs that would violate copyright, but generalities]

is it the same or close to the leaked version form a couple monthes ago?

better, worse, same?

Looks very, very similar to the new Fantasy rules. Challenges are back! And vehicles may suck - have to play them and see.

vehicles have hit points. i've read most of them and the local group have discussed part of it online..

I'll copy & post them tomorrow if I can.

psychic powers are now like spells..and can be 'dispelled' by the roll of a 6 from the target..
40k has chariots..? flyes fyl and hover.. and dive attack.. death from above on harges, even for large creatures...

Grenades are back as real weapons as well as the fluff they've been in the last rules.

I noticed it has mosterous flying creatures...hmm so does fantasy.. you think it's a way to use[sell] fantasy models for 40k?

also the fortifications & buildings have points costs and are destrucible.

all models can overwatch/snap shot, well except for some special or heavy weapons, at BS1, no matter what the original BS is. I disagree with that part, should be half level.
power fists/claws/klaws aren't str 10, but 2x for the best, +1 or +2 for others.

jumps packs & infantry are now different. flying and gliding. hovering.

I had a chance to check out the store copy at my FLGS yesterday. The rulebook is GIGANTIC- its like a hardcover phone book. I was impressed with the art and photos, but the sheer scale of the rules was intimidating. It felt so much like a college textbook that it put me off from buying one- YMMV though :)

what i've seen is 168 pages. about the same size as the fantasy rules book. alot of pics and fluff.

the $75 is what put me off.

usually they release the box set at the same time as the rulebook.. nothing so far, or even announced...not even which armies.

actually, AOBR was released 3 months after the book. they did release 4th ed. along with the starter set but sales weren't what they expected. they wanted people to buy both at the same time. By not releasing both together, they hope that most people will actually buy the book and the starter 3 months later. Anyway expect the starter sets in september around GD UK....

i'm still waiting for my book, i guess i'm going to like this edition better than 5th

It's looking like a September release on the starter. Rumors point to it being DA vs Chaos. I will be getting it cause yes the book is massive. The rules themselves seem pretty great though assault armies have been nerfed pretty bad. Noone can run and assault anymore! Fleet is just a reroll. Shooting armies should fare well in sixth

it's a shooting infantry game..that's one of the things that's turned me off with the last versions....everyone's got guns or ranged weapons, yet the games mostly HtH..
and tanks/vehicles.. they should rule the infantry.. vehicles should fight vehicles... dreads should be armoured suits.. tougher than regular troops but not full tanks.

it's about time they put the mechanic that what gets shot is what is removed from the table...thats how ranged combat works.. shoot whats about run you over, not the stuff behind.

i think the snap shot, overwatch is crap// in fantasy models getting charged can shoot at normal BS, but highly trained, super humans and aliens can only shoot at BS1? BS is the right term for it.

So far, a few things that I like -

- Jump infantry (and cavalry, which everyone seems to not notice) do impact hits now.
- Eldar finally get to show off how good runes of warding can be
- Cover is now more difficult to manage, as you can allocate which shots go to which cover save group.
- Power Fists aren't the only thing swinging slowly.
- You can decide how combat 'piles in' based on init now, instead of a blob meets blob system.

Most of the changes I see so far get a big ol serving of "dislike" from me.
Don't have time to go into detail right now but, my biggest pet peeves are (1) CHANGING the rules, instead of further streamlining them and (2) making the game more COMPLICATED than before. I don't want excessive complications. I want "quick & easy."

I like my games like I like my wimminses.

it's back to a shooting game. It's no longer a game where you use guns as clubs in HtH..

the nid player whined that it nerfed his all swarm army.. i said if you wnat to play all HtH, play fantasy. He got made.

This a game set in the future, but the trained shooters can't shoot. iN fantasy, a unit that is charged can shoot back at full BS.. now, these highly trained shooters, with modern weapons can' shoot as well as they 40000 year old ancestors.

In modern warfare tanks rule. in 40k the most vehicles aren't much more than jeeps. rhinos are apc's. land raiders are tougher apcs.
modern warfare has light fast moving units to insert troops. the flyers should be good for that.
the few tanks are only in 1 or at most 2 armies.
few things can affect modern tanks, except other tanks.

1. And bikes. Imapct hits at Init 10 before anything else.
2. No 'decide' to it. At each Init phase, you make a pile in for that Init group.

I'm liking the challenge thing for characters. I've always run Celestine solo and with this, will continue to do so. Now when she charges your squad, she challenges the Marine Sgt with his Powerfist. If he acepts, she kills him and doesn't have to worry about the fist anymore. If he declines, she beats up on the squad while he cowers in the back. Or vice versa, if my IG get charged by a big solo character, my IG sgt will challenge. Sure, he's gonna die. But now I've only lost the combat by 1 instead of a bunch.

Cover is reduced, harder for infantry to get but actually easier for vehicles. And you can choose to shoot at only the models in the open. Also liking the casualty removal from closest models first. Go ahead big nasty character, lead from the front........
