While I don't really like either of those armies, I think that would be a great base for the game!Gaijin18 wrote:keeps my fingers crosses for sisters of battle and nids

Re: 40k 6th edition "leaked" thoughts?
I suspect BT and Tau. They're rumored to be the two earliest 6e codices, and would be a perfect support for some Boxed Set models. You know? Give them a few cheap, attractive pieces to hook them in, then snag them with the higher priced necessities.
BT would be regular BT, maybe some Termies and a Dread or Land Speeder.
Tau would be some Fire Warriors, Kroot and a Crisis Suit or 3.
@kturock
Don't get too excited about those rules. I don't know where I said it, but my suspicions were true. This is a leak of an early version of the playtest rules. Rumor is that the developers were given free reign to do 'whatever they wanted,' and then they fudged with things from there. People are already reporting that Evasion is no longer part of the rules.

Figures. The people I talked to said they'd leave 40k if the 'to hit' was removed. Then again, only a couple play and that's not regular.

Re: 40k 6th edition "leaked" thoughts?
latest rumors tend to go towards a DA vs Chaos starter sets, which would make sense as 6th is supposed to shift the story a bit with Chaos ('End of Time' era which started with 5th). After that it's GW, they might change things, but production should start soon for delivery in sepember for the starter sets. the other point is that a load of people are playing power armours so, a full starter PA is win-win for GW as they reach a greater pourcentage of players potentially.
i just hope the new rules will make the game enjoyable again for me, as i kind of got bored with 5th.... on the other ends there plenty of good systems around currently...

Yeah. Just read that, myself. They say CSM will have a Chaos Dread.
Rumor is that the boxed sets are ready to go (to print, I presume, upon final completion of the rulebook) and that BT and Tau aren't seeing updates for quite a while. Ah, well.
Good thing both those armies ROCK right now.
Oh. Wait.

Re: 40k 6th edition "leaked" thoughts?
No.
One army of marines and one army of CHAOS marines.
See? There's a difference. LOL
Who knows? Rumor is that Traitor Guard will be incorporated into the CSM book. Might be that they're in whe box, too. Who knows (possibly GW, but other than that...).

Problem is traitor guard would be cool and this is GW we're talking about.

good point. but it would take a good seller from FW, and GW would do it....HarlequinZero wrote:Problem is traitor guard would be cool and this is GW we're talking about.
I can see DA vs Chaos, including deamons in the box though
EDIT: most probable thing for the starter set currently in the rumor mills:
from Wseer...6th starter does indeed feature DA and the forces of chaos, including a nice plastic chaos dread

Re: 40k 6th edition "leaked" thoughts?
Last nite was game nite. We played GorkaMorka. The shop owner has been playing/collecting GW as long as I have. He's 55-57.
He's read part of the 'leaked' rules.
When I told him rumour was that the evasion rules were dropped.
He said he wasn't even going to read anymore, because that's one of the things he liked that added.
I agree.
Saying it's just as easy/hard for an infantrymen to hit a tank, titan, bug, giant figure, small figure, regardless of speed is all equal is stupid.
Thus most of GW's last rule sets.
I actually expect to see the box set armies to be tied into Nahruto or Pokemon; since that's gW's target market group.

Re: 40k 6th edition "leaked" thoughts?
The problem is that there's a direct tie between the amount of rules you add and the length of the game. For the sake of gameplay, the rules should be as streamlined as reasonably possible.
I mean, you don't want to just make it "high die wins." I'm not saying that. But, I don't want to play a game that's bogged down with extensive mechanics and die rolls. I like the way 40K works it's hit/wound/save process. Adding another die roll in adds 33% more time to the equation, at minimum.
That's just me, though. YMMV.

Re: 40k 6th edition "leaked" thoughts?
Except it isn't another die roll, it's a modified roll, and if people can memorize "this is the roll I'll probably need to hit a Marine's WS, this is the roll I'll need to hit most independent characters, this is the roll I'll need to hit a Tau" and "this is how fast a vehicle moves, this is how fast cavalry move, this is how fast regular infantry can move" then I honestly believe they have the capacity to remember "this is what I need to hit a stationary vehicle," and that after playing half a dozen games, it wouldn't even come up. Probably tournaments would need to have "moved last turn" markers so people won't cheat, but I doubt there would be any realistic difficulty in one more stat.
For instance, Malifaux and Warmachine have much more granular defensive stats, but it's usually pretty easy to figure out.
Is it a medium defense? My sniper/melee expert will hit on anything but a low number.
Is it a high defense? My rank & file infantry will probably miss most of the time.
Is it an embarrassingly low defense? I'll hit unless I roll 4 or lower.
And the evasion system is less complex than that.
It's as hard to remember as "is it a high strength weapon? It'll kill most Guard it hits."
Along the lines of "is it a tank? I have a better chance of hitting." "Is it shooting across the board? Don't bank on the odd shot scoring a kill."
It would still be hit/wound/save, but the difference is just that, instead of a flat roll at shooting, it's a modified one, just like in melee.

Re: 40k 6th edition "leaked" thoughts?
Dude it's the same die roll, 1 roll. You compare to a chart, skill vs ev.. same chart as all other 40k charts. 4 vs 4 is 4.MagickalMemories wrote:The problem is that there's a direct tie between the amount of rules you add and the length of the game. It's not a new chart.
It's not another roll. You just compare the 'to hit' roll to a different chart as previously.
and, even in the rules it says you can do it the old way and just add/subtract the mods.
It's harder to memorise the new skills and abilities than the 1 basic chart.
