Thoughts on Grey Knights.

Post by Norseman »

Just wondering on peoples thoughts on Grey Knights.

Are they too powerful?

I honestly feel like a bastard when i field them. I feel they are "broken" powerful. Especially the Death Cult Assassins and Crusaders. I have a build that fields a ton of them and it erases everything horde or SMs it doesnt matter. Not to mention Draigowing. Which is a table full of Deathstars.

Came in second.

I had a rough match up vs Tyranids in the third round and took a draw.

The shadow in the warp kicked my ass. I did not make a physic test all game.

Personally i really dont like the Grey Knights, game workshop made them as overpowered as they could really.I mean sure i can understand the army being good against chaos and getting a bonus but all those abilities are almost just as good against most armies.Plus for so much power id expect their points costs to be higher so it balances the power with numbers of GKs on the field.Maybe GW will make them a bit more in line with other armies so they arent so much easier to win with or change grey knight rules to lower their chaos focused stuff powers against non chaos

for years they suked. 1st they were only elites in SM. Then when they were fieldable on their own, they were $$ points wise and worthless vs everything except choas deamons.
now the scales have tipped the other way.. hopefully they'll tip back and be balanced.
Heh, I was called a Grognard. ;-)

They were strong in 5th, i used to run a Crowe list that did pretty well. But with the 6e changes to vehicles (and disembarking/assaulting from said vehicles) they aren't as effective as they used to be. Everything in the codex is just too expensive on points in a 6e world where more troops = better.

Any army is overpowered if you spam (see SM Deep Strike Spam, Necron Flyer Spam, Dark Eldar Venom Spam, Tyranid Tervigon Spam, etc...). It is all about how you play, what you play in your list and who you play against. If you go onto google and look up "Grey Knight tournament list" your going to find some awesome lists, but unless you know how to deal with the list, where to place units, how offensive or defensive you should play, etc.. and make it work your going to run into problems actually playing them, not to mention the many players who have prepared with such lists at tournaments. Therefore I both agree and disagree with GK being overpowered. Sure, if you run a Draigowing, or a Purifier Cannon spam you'll be OP but you'll probably start to lose your friends :D, but if you play a list you made yourself vs. an opponent who knows how to play their army you'll find they are less OP. Those are my thoughts anyways...
