Well, that's a new one. I'm eagerly looking forward to the results after LISA is put up.

Actually this is a concept that a writer has been "exploring" for a very long time.
Michael Moorcock's general writings have been about the multi-verse.

Basically his concept of the multiverse is that there are thousands of different spheres that touch teach other. Each multi-verse is a slight variation of the ones touching it.
Think of the old TV show sliders
We are in this "reality" however in the ones touching it some event was different and thus changed the flow of things. The further you travel away from your "reality" the more things have changed. In this concept if you were to have traveled far enough Sorcery would replace Technology as the main motivator, this would only have been possible if the correct elements were in place to allow for "magic"
For every battle honor, a thousand heroes die alone, unsung and unremembered.

...and if you can somehow travel between the multi-verses and kill the other you, every other "you" will divide the power that the destroyed "you" had in life and become that much stronger.

I've always thought since I was a little kid that is what black holes were. Kinda freaky to hear it coming out of a physicist's mouth now. Not that I know anything about physics but I was really into being an astronaut as a kid like all of us were.

And that makes a lot more sense than a big bang from nothing, at least to me.

Also regarding other "copies" of ourselves: I assume you are just speaking of fiction, but I really don't think that would be possible. While a multiverse might be possible there is no reason it would be an exact copy. It's just stuff from one universe being violently formed into another. Its physical multiverse not spiritual or...I guess parallel dimensions.

Yeah I can see the "there can be only one" thing but in 'the one' they use the term multi-verse so it goes along with the subject of multi-verses and such.

You may have heard of or seen Highlander 2 and your brain, like so many others including mine, was traumatized.
