General warning, read manufactuers warantees cafefully.
I bought a high-end gaming notebook, an ASUS, from Best buy last year. It worked perfectly for 11 monthes, then it started to crash during boot up, shut down or restarts. Windows explorer would also crash.
I reinstalled Vista twice. It wouldnt even update. Tech support said, it must me a hardware problem, send it back.
I sent it back, the reinstalled Vista again. [software not hardware]
It took a week.
It lasted for 2 weeks and then started crashing again.
They told me to call every time it crashed. After 3 more weeks of the problem and 2 more reinstalls of Vista, I sent it back to ASUS. they sent it to they 'main' facility in California, it took a week to get there. Why?
Because ASUS policy is since you bought it at best buy, it must go back fed-ex ground. [no one at Best Buy or even CompUSA could understand that]. If you want it faster, you must pay, and if it's lost or damaged, it's your problem.
They replaced the DVD drive, and reinstalled Vista again, and downloaded all of the updates, including IE*, that took a week.
It crashed 26 hours after I received it. They latest reply? Re-install Vista again and don't download any Microsoft or Windows updates. MAYBE we have a problem between ASUS software and Windows. MAYBE.
They had the machine for 2 weeks, I was without it for over more 2 weeks just due to shipping times, and it still doesn't work correctly. It now has more problems than when it went out.
Oh yeah. ASUS has a no return policy. They'll keep on fixing it, until I get tired of sending it back.
So bottom line. Not only see what warantee you have, but is the item shipped back to the maker. Ground service is 1 week cross country, each way.

Wow, I have had great luck with Asus products in the past, as a matter of fact they are one of my preferred MB provider when making desktops for people.
Ive had MB's simply self destruct after 2 years and they have replaced with little to no problems, Yes it took roughly a 3 week turnaround, but it was cheaper than trying to find a compatable MB for the client still running the 478 pin processor.
Then again Notebooks are usualle made to be "disposable" or how else would they get you to purchase a new one. Unlike desktops there is only so much upgrading that can be done.

Electronics that dont work are irritating. My Xbox just died so I have to wait for a box to send it to them, for them to fix it.
And my laptop is probably about to die but I know its out of warranty. The AC cable or whatever you call it died one week before warranty expired

If it keeps breaking, keep sending it back. Sooner or later someone will realize that it will be more cost effective to just give you a new one. If they don't just keep letting them bleed themselves dry on the costs.

I have. However it wouldn't prevent me from getting another one and continuing to send the other one back until it gets fixed, or I get a new one.

Have you thought about filing a complaint with the BBB? About the expected use time and actual use time of the computer? Also, are you having to pay any of the shipping, or are they taking care of it themselves?

no, i haven't filed, just complained to their customer service dept. aslo to best buy and compusa, in front of customers.Creeper wrote:Have you thought about filing a complaint with the BBB? I know I have cost them at least 1 laptop sale, and have negatively influenced several others. I can't see the BB doing anything since asus says they'll keep fixing it until it's right.
ALso, since I build my own desktop adn am in the process now, I bought a motherboard and graphicscard made by other companies.
I told best buy, compusa and aslo asus customer service.
I've built or upgraded about a dozen computers, using asus motherboards or video cards using asus boards. No more.

we use asus gaming laptops at work because you cant beat the price for power ratio you get with them. none of us have ever had any issues. which model is yours?
I prefer to trade.
Lowest ships first, unless we have traded before.
I am located in the US and I do not trade internationally.

G50V. I bought it at best Buy, but it's not the model labeled "Best Buy".GrimDog wrote:we use asus gaming laptops at work because you cant beat the price for power ratio you get with them. none of us have ever had any issues. which model is yours?
