I have a fair number of Ork and Space Marines I want to be selling, and I thought maybe adding pics of them to help with any description errors would be helpful.

A: I don't know if this is allowed.. I rarely see anyone else doing this. Is there bandwidth issues?

B: How do I do it? Do I just copy and paste a link, or is it possible to add the picture file directly to the ad...

Any help with this would be really nice!

Well,

1- Yes it is more than allowed.
2- You can add a picture by attaching it through the "Add and Attachment" part of the post (at the bottom). OR you can use the IMG tags to link to an offsite picture host.

What *I* do, porkuslime...

I have a photobucket account.
When you add an image to photobucket, there are 3 links below it... one begins with Image
Now, the above image... I just love it.
We did a little photo shoot with 5 outfits and many poses in each at a local park as a reward for doing well in school (the kid's a HAM like daddy and LOVES the camera).

HER favorite image is below. It is, as she says, her "Count Olaf" pose.
She loves the Movie "A Series of Unfortunate Events" and thinks Count Olaf is hilarious.
Image
You'll recognize the dress & the stone bridge from the image below.

Plus... I get to show you how to do it, AND show off my daughter.

Think I'm a proud Poppa?

porkuslime, I can see you are a veteran trader. I suggest not using the bartertown to host your files. The site will limit your image size and file size. It's ok if you're on the fly or a come and go trader. I use photobucket to host my pictures. 200+ 800x600 pictures and counting on my free account. Nowhere close to becoming full. What makes photobucket great is that I can take multiple pictures of every item I am selling. Then simply add the links to the bottom of my item (no [img] tag of course.) By adding detailed pictures to all your items, this will save you a lot of time in the long run. No silly PMs regarding item quality.

This goes for all users who read this. IMO it is idiotic to advertise large lots saying "PM/email me if you want pictures." Heck, some people don't even advertise the actual item list, just the potential army deal. Please take the time to gather all physical details of the items you are trading before posting them. If you post on a weekly basis, save your trade list in a text file along with any HTML tags and links you used. By adding all the details of your items to your post, users will take more time to consider your offers. They can simply thumb through your stuff without questions at their own leisure. By reducing PM time, you will move your items faster.

i would do a couple things each a little different and/or the same as others.

www.photobucket.com is your friend

remember alot of people on here have dialup

i surf bartertown like this and i think alot of others may, i right click and open in new window the various forums and then the various threads in those forums. then i essentially have 40 explorer windows open.

so if we have the trend like this happening that is alot of bandwidth i would say, and if they are image tags even more so.

take your pictures and post links, if they are interested, let them work for it.
if its a couple pics, image tags is one thing, if its 30 pics in 1 add thats a whole nother ball of wax we ought to avoid.

the discussion forums are totally different in this respect due to the traffic they get. the trading forums, look at the traffic it gets, huge difference.

I have DSL now and images in posts arent an issue anymore, but with dialup it was and is one reason i got in the habit of opening multiple windows because by the time i got what i wanted open, i could start at the first one and they were loaded by the time i got to each one.

like alsaie said there is nothing against it, but the reasons i posted above are my reasons against it.

and if more people see a couple doing it, then others will follow suit and it gets slower and slower.

What?
They still have that?

LOL

Good point. I hadn't really thought about people in the Stone Age of computers. LOL

a couple reasons for dialup.

not that many people can get DSL across dishes
Cable is not cheap unless you have cable tv (i have dish) still not that cheap.
and unless you live close enough to a switchbox for DSL like Verizons you cant get it either.

so yes alot of people still have dialup.

Actually when I was discussing adding pictures to trading threads, I said to exclude the [img] tags.

Example:

Chaos Space Marines

1 metal CSM dreadnought (painted)

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b243/ ... read1b.jpg

Include links to pictures for every non NIB item you are selling. Could just be me, but I got sick of unnecessary questions and PMs. Making a trade list where everything can be listed "as is" means I can close deals faster without hassle. The whole point here is optimising your time and offers. If a person has dial-up, he is still going to want pictures. Whether I email them or provide a link, he will see them at the same speed. But by providing a link, everyone is happy.

That isnt very logical. Not trying to cause any *edit* or anything but shouldnt we all have respect for peoples bandwidth whether you are a mod or not? Its about setting an example. I was unaware that being a mod allowed you to break the rules at bartertown or exempted you from courteous suggestions towards fellow bartertown folk. Its really no big deal with the pictures. I was just sayin that for some odd reason that sig halts my computer every time it comes on my screen is all. Finally, seeing as how im sure he can read what ive said im sure he doesnt need you to defend him. But thanks for your input anyway, useless as it was.

PS
Im thinkin my puter just might not like gif's and i didnt notice that it was a gif before cuz it never moved.

-Edit-
Nope not the gif's fault cuz morlocks sig doesnt lock my screen.
