Heads Up for All Traders! - Admin Warning

Post by porkuslime »

I just want to make sure you all know that there are a couple of people down in Gainesville Florida who are trying to make our trading world a little less pleasant.

This is NOT a global indictment of Florida traders, but there are a couple that folks NEED to be aware of.

First one..
Ichbod/El Guapo/ Deathwing14 ... aka Alex Thomas or Jim Houston

He has earned himself a spot in the Hall of Shame..
viewtopic.php?f=46&t=101628

then we have
adhesivespatula/catch224lyfe ... aka Kyle Stout

also residing in the Hall of Shame
viewtopic.php?f=46&t=101589

These 2 gents evidently know each other, and when Kyle was found out recently, he went so far as to taunt the Staff.. flat out telling us that he can create accounts at will, and take advantage of our trusting membership..

so.. once again.. be wary of "most" new traders in the Gainesville area for a while.

If something sounds fishy to you, contact Bartertown Staff please!

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.

I use the Unofficial Porkuslime Trading Guidelines - if you have way less refs.. you ship first.

Folks I am awaiting a ref from.. Zack

To add on to this, I'd also like to remind some of our more vocal members out there that this is NOT an acceptable reason to start warning people to be wary of ALL Gainesville trades.
A few bad apples does NOT spoil the whole bunch.

We have other Gainesville traders who are very valuable members of our community. They should not be treated poorly just because of the actions of a couple/few people near them.

Thank you.

Eric

No of course not! No one should put everyone from Florida, or even Gainesville on some kind of "do not trade list".
Just be extra careful if you get suspicious. Id hate for this guy to do something like this again.

Dude. That's a bit uncalled for. Comparing all Gainesville traders to Ticknor is rather insulting. And I for one do not appreciate it. Neither Porkuslime, MagicalMemories, nor Strslayer made any such insinuations. A simple "Hey keep your eyes open" was all that was said or necessary.

Not cool man... not cool.

Exactly. People should exercise some additional caution with non-established traders, particularly where problems have cropped up recently. Some scammers will re-register under friend's names, using nearby addresses for deliveries.

Be careful out there.

Also, if buying, ask the seller where he is before sending cash. Most sales the buyer doesn't get the seller's info. You could be sending one of the jokers cash and not know it.

Fair enough.

The first quote just struck a nerve and seemed, to me anyway, like JohnHwangBT was lumping everyone together in one bad egg called Gainesville. I can agree that folks should use a touch of extra caution with newer traders from this area, especially right now. It just irks me that this has happened, and could possibly cause me some issues with trades and such.

You've been on site for years, with almost 20 trades completed. You don't really have anything to worry about.

Well I haven't been on here for twenty years and neither am I from Gainesville but I am from Florida. Jerks messing up the Florida name. Of course I'm from Tallahassee and am a FSU fan so I'm kinda careful with anyone from Gainesville anyway. :-D
LOOK OUT FOR THAT HAMMER!!!!!!

1. Less refs you'll probably have to ship first,
2. Please pm me even if a simple no. I will always try to do the same for you
3. PLEASE tell me what edition your warhammer stuff is! If you say you have a model and don't specify people assume you mean a seven edition. Not a worthless fourth edition.

BAD traders: Haven't found any yet
Amazing traders: Grimdisco
Awaiting refs from: hooksy67

To be fair, I can see why John's message might've riled Locust up. It was general enough to be easily taken the wrong way (both by people in Gainesville and those who might -or might not- be trading with them).

I was glad to see the clarification.

So.....let me just get this straight cause I dropped out of the conversation when I kinda got jumped on in the BTR thread on the subject.

I specifically called out Alex and showed he lived a block from there and stated it seemed a little convenient that it was happening and that his wording was a little to similar to the other, and was chastised for it....(not by an admin per say but still)

I'm feeling a little vindicated now. :)

It's good that you feel vindicated. You should.
If I recall the issue correctly, however, you were posting an opinion with no facts, only coincidences. Right?

When I nailed him, it was because I managed to dig up some facts.
Not coming down on you. Just showing the difference.

Members keeping their eyes and ears open and helping us police the site has always been one of Bartertown's strongest deterrents against traders acting improperly. We hope it always will be.

Just remember, folks, that t's always best to PM your accusations/concerns to an Admin. If you're wrong, it keeps you from looking like an @ss (LOL). If you're right, it keeps the accused from getting a head start (bigger LOL).

Thanks!
