I PM'd Admin MM, but it does raise the question why the confirmation screen is so completely useless.
Ideally, it'd show a preview of the reference as it would appear when you Check References, with the colors and all that stuff (which has already been coded).
Or at least specify that you're leaving a Bad (or other non-Good) reference.
- "Do you want to leave a [Good / Neutral / Bad] reference for [whomever]?"
I think the root cause is a lack of error checking for no "type" (Good / Neutral / Bad) selected, and then defaulting to Bad. I may test this later on Adam's test account.

John, don't blame your mistake on a "useless" screen. You've used it how many times before and never had this happen?
Also, the references do not default to anything. If you do not check which type of reference you're leaving, it does not leave a reference. Instead, after you say "yes" that you're sure you want to leave the reference, you get this error message:
You forgot to fill out the trade type field (good, bad)
The only possibility is that you accidentally checked the "bad" box.
The negative had been deleted. Please, note that references do not recalculate until after the next reference is left. So, he'll be showing a -8 total until you leave him the positive (which will net him a 4).

I've used it at least 70 times and never screwed it up before, so that's like a 1.4% failure rate, which isn't too bad for amateur data entry.
Anyhow, yes, I made a mistake - proof that I'm as human as the rest of you. And I'm going to fix it as soon as I finish this post, because that's the right thing to do.
Thanks very much for clearing the ref - it's much appreciated.
Tho I would like that confirmation screen to be a bit more helpful.

I've found it happens on the radial boxes/buttons when you sometimes scroll down. the cursor floats between, amoung the choices rather than going down to the next group.
balme it on the true culprit; windows, and how lazy it's made us. [where's that damn auto-cap they promised?!]

John does bring up a great point. It would be really nice to have a summary of the actual reference to be left on the final screen...would save me backing up every time to double check what I've entered.

You should double check before you hit the submit button.
All the information is there, you do not have to scroll through pages, it is not like you have to go through multiple pages or click multiple accept buttons.
Sounds to me like people are just simply being to lazy to double check their work.
My father always says to me "Measure twice, cut once" That same philosophy works here. Check your entry twice, click submit once.

It's not a question of laziness - mistakes can and do happen.
It's a question of error prevention. Confirming a reference with details is an easy thing to do, which is why most confirmations show the details.

Simply commenting from a "user friendliness" perspective (mine at least...

The ITL was never built with the intent of being phpbb compatable. In fact, I doubt phpbb software was even around when Adam created the ITL.
As a result, when Adam upgraded us from the old, scrolling forum to phpbb, then again every time he updated the version, he has to, essentially, force-feed the ITL into phpbb. Honestly, I wouldn't look for any tweaks or enhancements. It's like trying to get an OLD Windows program to work on Vista. You have to work your butt off and, in the end, it's kind of a crap-shoot. LOL
Yes. I exaggerate... but only slightly.

Unless you want Adam to redo the ITL, and possibly cause all of us to have to start over from 0.
