Artistic Wargamer

Hello all

I'm looking to start a website. I'm calling it "the artistic wargamer" (maybe a better name?). The point would be to collect a "library" of useful techniques used in this hobby. There will also be a forum, aimed at discussing hobby techniques, help etc.

So questions:

1. What do you all think?
2. Any suggestions?
3. How would YOU handle how articles are chosen? (I've got my ideas)
4. Can I count on you to be there?

LMK!

P.S. Watchmen/Mods- The site is not set up yet (and I have been discussing it with Lin/MM). therefore I am not yet required to advertise. Also, I have NO intention of going under the radar, as I told Lin I have more respect for this place than that. Just thought I'd save everyone the trouble, no offense.

To be clear... This is HOBBY related, and not GAME related. Yes?

In other words, you'll be discussing modelling, terrain making, painting, sculpting, etc., but will not have a "WH40K" forum, a "WARMACHINE" forum, forums for list building and whatnot. Correct?

Maybe offhand. But yes the forum is dedicated to hobby projects, not gaming.

That answer your question?

Yep.

I think that is an important distinction to make before people start throwing out a bunch of ideas unrelated to your vision.

A couple sites I can think of, off hand, that you might look at for inspiration:

terragenesis
WIP

Both are somewhat along the lines of what you're looking for. There are a lot of good "do's" and "don'ts" that you can learn from them.

I was thinking Coolminiornot would be a good inspiration too. That's a very helpful, if 2 item, list.

I wonder when the non-post whores will show up? :-P But seriously, thanks MM.

Maybe this will help to get the ball rolling.

Just some ideas for possible sections you could have:
Terrain
Green Stuff/Scuplting
Kit Bashing
Painting
WIP
Finished Works

Maybe you could host how to sessions with guest artists that frequent this site

you could have a step by step hosted with pics

There definately is some great talent here why not use that experience

just a thought

Also... IMO...

Don't call it "Artistic Wargamer."

Artistic is too close to Autistic, and could lead to some ugly jibes.

It's like naming a kid Eugene. While it's a perfectly fine name from an ADULT standpoint, EUGENE is likely to get his butt kicked regularly by kids who don't see things from an Adult p.o.v.

Internet Gamers = children on playgrounds

Honestly when i first read the title of the thread i thought it was Autistic Wargammer. And that you were going to ask advice on games for someone you knew.

Thats cold, Ironhide. My mom works for a government funded organization that deals with the developmentally disabled. I practically grew up with the mentally <not smart>.

[/serious note]

Yeah, I didn't take it that seriously.

Also, I kinda hate ponies.

As far as the autism reference goes, I wouldn't have thought that , but I can and should change the name. I will think about it.

And to others- I haven't gotten around to fully checking out my competition. I will do that and then post what I come up with. I had never heard of brushthralls before you said that EZ mac.

Thanks for your help guys.

EDIT: Whoa, it censored re!arded.

Yep.. that term associated with the mentally underdeveloped got censored after several people started slinging it back and forth in the BTR forum about a year, 2 years back.

It got ugly.. and.. as a parent who has a daughter who falls broadly into that category, I was supportive of that.

{/off-topic}

good luck on the site, though. do you think you will have enough fresh material to support your mission?

I've worked with mentally disabled people, and they are IMO some of the first people who will joke about their condition. Three of the guys got me laughing so hard I was actually ROTFLMAO.

Autistic people playing Warhammer would have me scared, because I think once they grasped the concept of the game they would most likely beat you at it.

The last part I got from a phone message someone sent me on my cell phone.
