Hate to tell you, most comic books have no value. Since the 1980's, comic book publishers have flooded the market. The stores can still buy them for base price. Only specific titles and issues have any value. Comics from the 1960's and early; and only specific titles and issues have value.shakespear wrote:Spire_182 wrote:I think you are seeing more "pickers" on Bartertown and fewer gamers. It's sad really...
At least comic books have value. Most mini gaming stuff is worth 30% less than retail if its sealed. Less if its not popular, is painted, assembled, opened, ect.
Now some boardgames can be worth a bit but not a ton of money.
What do people expect when they come here?

Actually thats not true anymore, hasnt been for about 10 years. I am well aware of the glut in the 80s-90s, nowadays print runs are much less what they were then. You actually have some books jumping in value weekly. Also, companies have gotten into the alternate cover game, only making them one per 100 issues or so.kturock wrote:Hate to tell you, most comic books have no value. Nowadays selling 100,000 is a big deal, in the 90s that meant you were in danger of cancellation.
Nothing is worth hundreds of dollars, but things are holding their value and seems to be on track to increase as long as their is demand.

Re: What do people expect when they come here?
Quote whatever you want. I know what the local comic stores are paying to buy comics in south Florida. The stores will sell for cover or a bit more. To buy them, they pay pennies on the dollar, because they can order them new from dc & marvel. Only a few special or independant comics are OOP.
Look at ebay, look at amazon.com. Ebay will have the high dollar value items only. But both amazon and ebay stores are selling comics for cover; or just above or below.

Re: What do people expect when they come here?
I love Traders like this:
A member here a year & a half and two trades. Ref score a mighty 4.
""Payment: I know it may be customary for the lowest feedback to ship/pay first, but I am not willing to do so. I require payment before shipping. If this is a inconvenience to any, I am sorry.""
Explain to me again how Im suppose to trust you with a score of 4 and you refuse to trust me with a 400+ ?
Who has more to lose if they dont come through on the deal?
Umm....yeah.... no thanks.
Put that line in bold at the top of your trade ad, so established traders who earned their stripes here can not waste their time or yours.
The dead-beat/bad trader section is chock full of low ref traders like this.

Saw that and had the same thought. Didn't read any further than that.

- A simple 'not interested' to a trade offer is just being polite. It helps people setting up multiple trades know where they stand.
- Google something for someone, they get an answer. Teach someone how to Google their own answer, they own the Internet.

Re: What do people expect when they come here?
I NEVER read any further than that, regardless of their rating.
FOR ME, PERSONALLY, if the person's not willing to follow "Lowest rated sends first" on whatever our deal is (cash or trade), then I'm not interested - doesn't matter if their ref's are 2, 20 or 200.
Heck, I'm and Admin and Porkuslime's an Admin. When we trade... I volunteer to ship first. Now, granted we've got a history together, and he's an Admin and all... but it doesn't matter. His ref's are higher, I ship first. Period.
Whether or not I break my "lower ships first" rule for someone lower rated is up to me. I won't have it dictated to me.

Anymore if I go to a trade ad and its from a 20 or less trader I stop reading.
Wasted too much time PMing back and forth about a trade and when it comes to shipping before payment they won't.
Then they give you the "paypal protects you but nothing protects me" schpeel.

Actually, it's kinda on topic. People do come here to play and sell you lines of crap.

Re: What do people expect when they come here?
I expected to make some trustworthy deals with established traders...and that's exactly what happened.
Deal with the big fish, follow their trade rules and smooth deals all around.
I shipped first many times and it was worth it- the culture here is self regulating.
Bartertown is unique and rewarding as long as you follow standard practices.
Break the deal and face the wheel...
All hail Bartertown!
