Thats cold, Ironhide. My mom works for a government funded organization that deals with the developmentally disabled. I practically grew up with the mentally <not smart>.

I've worked with mentally disabled people, and they are IMO some of the first people who will joke about their condition. Three of the guys got me laughing so hard I was actually ROTFLMAO.

Autistic people playing Warhammer would have me scared, because I think once they grasped the concept of the game they would most likely beat you at it.

Agreed. However there is a big difference from someone who said disabled person considers a friend, and a total stranger, making fun of them like that. FWIW, I didn't know you fell in that first category IH. I thought you were being truly malicious. I should have known.

So all's good.

I think an autistic person would honestly be impaired at 40k. Autism is a disability that limits the brains ability to connect pathways, so that they can't always connect two concepts to each other. They might figure out a tactic that worked in a previous situation, but then have trouble applying to the new one because the new "situation" is completely different, even though the tactic still applies. So the would have difficulty developing strategy and tactics, but once all the pathways are established I think they could easily be very good.

At least, that's how I understand it. I guess I just agreed with you.

MAN, thats off topic. I don't think I have any relevant information to add, but all that, I believe, was still important to say.

Exactly. And with some of the autistic savants abilities to a) calculate distance and b)do statistical calculations on the dice roles would make them a real terror. You would just have to teach them the rules and let them observe some tournaments.

Apologies for the threadomancy here by BGH asked that I, being an austic wargamer, check this thread out. I can only speak from personal experience so don't take any of this as gospel.

I personally SUCK at playing wargames. Like BGH said, I have trouble applying the same tactic to different situations. Unless the situation is very similar to a previous one in which I have used certain tactics and I recognize the similarity, the idea of using those same tactics simply does not occur to me. Another issue I have is adapting and improvising. If something doesn't go according to plan, I am totally and completely poo'd. The step-by-step, systematic, process of my strategy has been de-railed and I am at a complete loss of how to get it back on track. However, I think my greatest difficulty is the psychology involved. Since I don't think like other people, I don't understand their thinking so unless I am intimately familiar with the other player, I am pretty much incapable of anticipating they're next move or figuring out what they are up to. Needless to say I lose ALOT. In a recent game of Necromunda, I got my backside handed to me by my 19-year-old nephew who had never played before in his life. Of course, the fact that he's a Combat Engineer in the Army may have had more than a little something to do with that but....

That's all just me though. Each of us (autistics, that is) is different in our quirks and aptitudes so "milage may vary" from one to the next.

It is kinda hard to trade when people don't reply to PMs or posts.
Please reply, lots of us want your stuff.
And besides it is the polite thing to do.

I only ship priority mail only and would like my trading partners to do the same.

Hmmm... I wonder if bad dice karma qualifies as a disability.

Losing doesn't really bother me all that much. I'm more into the collecting aspect of the hobby anyways. Gee... an autistic who collects thing... imagine that!

The other folks in the club are aware of my differences and are cool with them. They realize and accept that if they want a strategical challenge, I am simply not the opponent of choice. If they're looking for a good ol' fashion, knockdown, drag-out, head-on, toe-to-toe slugfest that makes no pretenses at finesse or cunning, I'm their man!

I'm glad the thread was resurrected as I missed it the first time around.

To the OP: I have to ask, what are YOU looking to get out of this venture?

As a founding member (now mostly retired) of BrushThralls.com I'm fully qualified to ask (and answer) that question. Examining your own motives will help you determine which direction that you should take. I know what I was looking for back in the early days of BT.com. I also know why I walked away and started my own website youngwolf7.com.

If you want to discuss privately my email addy is on my website. The internet is littered with the corpses of many failed sites like the one you propose. I'd hate to see you put a bunch of work in to it just to watch it collapse.

And I find it refreshing to find someone who hadn't heard about us. ;)

Conveniently enough, I've been trading with both youngwolf7 and sykoholic, and have had good discussions with both of them.

Suffice to say that I will start over when I have a better grip on what I am doing. It was an offhand idea. I don't know how to progress this at the moment, but if I need Btown's help I will ask at a later date.

Interesting offtopicness though.
