I have switched to Mantic's Kings of War. I fell in love with ranks and flanks, I have multiple armies not skirmish bands, and the game has the feel of 4-5th edition. We play 2k games in 2 hrs. Very clean and simple. Move, Shoot, Melee

That amuses me.
Ranks, movement, etc were the things I heard most complained about in previous editions of WHFB. LOL
Flanking didn't seem to be all that popular, either!
Did you play previous editions of WHFB, by chance?

Ranked blocks of infantry have always been a staple of a lot of historical games.
The crossover between historicals and fantasy tabletop games is usually Wargods of Aegyptus (it is the fantasy game that historical gamers play- because it plays a lot like a historical game).
I really wonder why Wargods didn't come up much when WFB players talked about finding a new infantry blocks game.

Because Wargods has never really gotten the attention and love that it deserves. I like the game, but finding opponents and armies for it is a pain. I have started telling people to pick it up for SAGA Age of Magic figs, and then I can convert them to play both games.gardenninja wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2019 9:03 pmRanked blocks of infantry have always been a staple of a lot of historical games.

I have friends who keep wanting me to play AoS, but I can just as easily find people to play KoW or ASoIaF.

I play AoS, but I have an 8th WHFB army sitting in my display case for the off chance someone wanted to play me.
I miss it, but no one plays it anymore.

Re: So how many people are actually playing AoS???
No 9th Age players in your area?
I don't have a huge sample size, but the Warhammer armies I've been painting are split between 9th Age players who have me put them on square bases and AoS players who have me put them on round bases.
I've had both from the start of AoS, but at some point after the General's Handbook, round bases started outnumbering square ones.
But numbers like that don't matter all that much. It is really about your local scene. If you can find opponents for a game, that's what really matters.

I played warhammer fantasy from 3rd edition up to 6th edition. I really enjoyed the game but after moving and losing my gaming group I had to give it up.
But now my youngest is interested in playing a fantasy game like warhammer. We have been looking at AoS but kings of war does look nice. From what I have read it is very much like warhammer used to be when I played.

Warhawk you're in one of the most active regions. The Midwest ( all of us ) have separate FB pages and each race has a separate page so you should get in touch with the community!
