Valuing old trading cards...

Post by AvatarForm »

Hi everyone,

I recently finished unpacking my storage boxes and discovered my old card collections from school.

Now I have no idea what these are worth... but I was hoping someone here may be able to assist. They are:

1994 Australian Rugby Leaugue complete set (Series 1) - including many clear Captain's Choice limited cards each signed by the respective player.

1994 Marvel XMen (Series 1) - complete set including all the Sinister Observations; Versus; and Clear Cards

Now all of these have been preserved in clear card protection sheets inside a display/collectibles folder. So no damage whatsoever.

Can anyone provide a link or direct quotation if any of these are of any value, other than sentimental?

Thank you in advance

I can't speak for the sports cards, but the Xmen cards aren't worth much. If you're lucky, half of what you paid for them.
My wife got into comics and comic cards for a short time, like 2 years. Then she found out how boring collecting the cards were and how little they were/are worth.

The sports cards are usually the same. Complete sets might get you something, or special cards of superstar players. other than that....nada.

best I can say is call/email/talk to any sports cards stores in your area.

for the xmen, check ebay and the like also some of the bigger online comic book stores and the online cards stores. I think 1 is called, or was called, dave's card world. I seem to remember getting emails from them. also nobleknightgames.com .

good luck.
Heh, I was called a Grognard. ;-)

Yeh thanks mate.

I had a check around and it appears that these will only ever be worth something to myself.

The best offer I had was only a couple of hundred dollars. This barely covers the cost of the entire collection if I were to buy the required number of packs of cards again.
